TE PUKE — In a shining example of local collaboration, the Vector Group Charitable Trust collaborated on a successful working bee held at Giggles Early Learning to revitalize its mara kai edible garden ready for spring. The effort, which saw volunteers come together with a singular purpose, underscores the strong community spirit that defines Te Puke.
The day’s mission was to get the garden primed for a productive new season. Key tasks included the careful trimming of feijoa trees to encourage fresh growth and the removal of a long-troubled peach tree, creating space for new life to flourish.
The project was truly a family affair. Giggles Early Learning owners Shona and her husband were on hand, working alongside their own children, turning the day into a valuable learning experience for the whole family. Their commitment to the mara kai as a living classroom was evident, demonstrating to the young tamariki the importance of sustainable practices and teamwork.
The success of the day was a testament to the power of community partnerships. A special thanks is extended to AJ from Te Puke Landscape Supplies for their generous support with supplies, and to Hireworks for providing the essential chipper and chainsaw that made the bigger jobs manageable.
This story of collective effort perfectly aligns with the mission of tepuke.online, celebrating the positive actions and people that make our town thrive. The day’s work at Giggles Early Learning is more than just a garden cleanup; it’s an investment in a food-secure future and a powerful lesson in what we can achieve when we work together.
